Mental Health

Occupational Therapists working with individuals with psychosocial disabilities can assist them to enhance their participation in a range of daily activities such as self-care, engaging in leisure activities and participating in tasks outside the home environment to increase social and community participation.  Occupational Therapist use a variety of approaches to assist with development of life skills including;

 

  • Intervention to develop daily living skills such as cooking, shopping, money handling and completing household tasks.

  • Implement activities that teach valuable skills, such as social skills training to build confidence engaging with others.

  • Help structure lives and organise daily activities so that individuals can develop a sustained balance routine.

  • Provide education and support to improve sleep hygiene and routines.

  • Provide strategies to assist an individual's capacity to manage anxiety and other negative symptoms. Providing support to implement these strategies practically, to facilitate individual's to implement this in their daily life.

  • Exploring meaningful activities to replace unhealthy activities, such as substance abuse.
